"Do I Cut My Hair?" Look Inside My Ultimate Guide

"I need to cut my hair...but will that make it stop growing?"

Everyone wants long, thick, shiny, and healthy hair! But, to achieve that, you need to go the extra mile to ensure it stays strong and healthy. That, my friend, involves cutting your hair! But not in the way you might think.

I cut my hair when it needs it! And when I do, it only gets a dust off the ends to achieve a full and healthy look at all times.

Arguably, one of the most questioned subjects in the pursuit of healthy locks is this:

How often should I trim my hair?

If your goal is to grow your hair out longer, my advice is to get quarterly trims. Now, here is where The Jasmine Rae Way comes into play. When I say, “a trim,” I mean the tiniest of all minuscule trims!

I like to refer to this as “Getting a Dusting.” If you could see me right now, I have my index finger and thumb up to show you the amount that should be cut … and it looks like my fingers are touching! I’m talking about a microscopic trim!

To get this Jasmine Rae Way dusting, you must be specific with your hairdresser. If you flop down in the chair and say you need a trim, you might be looking at 3-inch piles on the floor. The best approach for this is to flop down in the chair and say:

“I know I need more, but I just want to dust off the ends. A minuscule amount (rub your fingers together). Please and thank you!”

Let’s take a moment and talk about these ends that you’re getting trimmed. These strands grew out of your head probably years ago! So, in the concept of time, your head is actually a multigenerational situation. At the top are your baby hairs. Around your ears are your toddler hairs, then your preteen, then your teenager hairs, and your midlife crisis hairs…. you get the point.

Care for Your Elderly Hair

So, what age would that make your ends? Why, these are your elderlies, of course! And how do we treat elderly people? Softly and tenderly. With great care and love! So be gentle. Don’t stress them out with rough combing or put a ton of heat on them. Leave your ends alone, let them be, and love them dearly.

It's also worth noting how important it is to find a good hairdresser. I wish I could cut your hair, but since you probably don’t live in Idaho, you’ll have to find someone else. (If you do live in Idaho, get an appointment at my salon The Hair Co!)

Check Out Hairdressers

Therefore, it’s a great idea to find a potential hairdresser’s Instagram page or website and look through their work. Reach out and ask questions. Don’t be obnoxiously picky, but just be normal and be specific. That way, the hairdresser can tell you what he or she can do, and everyone feels heard and happy.

In the end, listen to your hair; keep it moisturized with quality products. Care for those elderly lengths, and make sure you are getting to your “Dusting Appointments.” Before you know it, you will be well on your way to long, gorgeous hair!

Xoxo,

 Jazz
